Ready to take the rough with the smooth
Favourite feature No. 1: This is surprisingly resilient to bumps even though suspension is only fitted to the front forks. We deliberately tried this over a pothole riddled road and the bike soaked up a lot of force. For a so-called hardtail, the ride was not very 'hard' at all.
Adaptable to fast-changing terrain
Favourite feature No. 2: The gears are slick, fast-changing and secure. Flicking up and down the gears was super easy and 'crunch free' on our test-ride. This is perfect for a bike like this which is likely to be going over a variety of gradients and terrains while on a ride. This bike will adapt quickly, with no fuss. The bike uses 9-speed Alivio gearing by Shimano - which are nominally an 'entry level' gearing system - but it feels like Shimano have improved them this year compared to previous seasons, as they certainly don't feel basic.
All power, no noise
Favourite feature No. 3: The motor on this bike is unexpectedly quiet, even on the highest level of assistance. The Bosch Performance motor is paired here with Bosch's all-new Smart System. The motor has a new and improved internal gearing system which means no motor noise at all. If you're on a ride to escape the noise of the urban environment, your peace and quiet won't be disturbed by your e-bike.
Summary: An 'entry level' hardtail electric mountain bike that is impressively capable. Probably our best value hardtail for a few seasons.
