You all know that electric bikes are going to be heavier than a traditional bike. Once you add a high capacity battery, and a strong, reliable motor, weight is inescapable. However, there are brands that are releasing models which keep this weight down to the absolute minimum.
Keeping the Weight Down
Here is the Specialized Vado SL 4.0 ST. The way it saves weight for you is through a slim aluminium frame, and a minimalist battery and motor system. The lighter battery and motor on this e-bike don't have the power to match some of the Bosch, Yamaha and Shimano powered bikes you'll find in our showrooms so this is an e-bike for someone who is pretty confident in their fitness and riding already, but needs a shot of energy every so often for the most difficult climbs.
Great Design Choices
We really like the design choices here. For a competent rider, the Specialized 1.1 motor is more than enough help on hills (we've tested this motor on some of the steepest hills in the Greater London region). The 'Mixte' (pronounced MIX-tee) style frame is great for hopping on and off, or for those rapid stops at road junctions. The tyres are a great choice too. This is the type of tyre that rolls easily on the road but is wide enough for you to maintain control on un-tarmac'd tracks.
We also like the colour. That light shade will look so good under spring and summer sunshine, and if you're tired of seeing e-bikes in various shades of black, then this makes a terrific, uplifting change.
Summary: A well thought out electric bike to give an uplifting boost to your riding. Would suit a frequent rider looking to replace their hybrid bike for rides around coastal or well-maintained countryside.
As with all our e-bikes, this is available to test-ride. Contact your nearest showroom to reserve your slot.

This is a brand born in the Californian sunshine all the way back in 1974, so you can be certain that it has fun, leisure and adventure at its heart. We have been extremely impressed by the overall feel of these bikes. They are spritely without being overly aggressive, and comfortable without feeling old-fashioned.
If you want a bike that looks special, you'll want to look at Specialized bikes (pun intended).
