There's a lot of buzz about this bike, and we have to say that this time the hype is REAL.
As soon as we found out that the new AllMtn range would come with the PW-X2 motor by Yamaha, we were very excited. Yamaha are renowned for their punchy, dynamic motors which help the rider get out of a tough spot or to accelerate away on a steep hill, even from a dead stop. The PW-X2 is a step up again on those motors with a higher maximum torque. The spec sheet lists this as 80nm but honestly it feels like it's a bit more than that, maybe because of the way it transmits the power. You'll have a lot of fun in the new 'extra power' mode too.
Imagine all that power in a full carbon frame. Incredible. If you were thinking about a Flyon, you're probably better of getting one of these. It's so much lighter.
The suspension (160mm) is some of the best we've seen on electric bikes. While some long-travel suspension sets create a trampolining effect, with the forks on these you get nothing less than stability. You can say goodbye to being thrown about.
You'll notice from the photo that the front wheel is larger than the rear. Haibike describes this as 'business up front, party at the back'. The 29" front wheel is all about making light work of obstacles and potholes, while the lower, wider rear wheel is about gaining traction to take advantage of that PW-X2 power. It's an ingenious way to deal with variable terrain. In fact the whole geometry of the bike enhances these qualities.
Summary: An electric bike that combines smart design and gargantuan power. Fast uphill AND downhill.
