How would you celebrate turning 72? Would you ride 72 miles every day for 14 days?
Well that's exactly how Ray, our Energise E-bikes founder, will celebrate this May as he sets off from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats on the northernmost tip of mainland Scotland. He will pedal through a distance of 1,008 miles, and he's chosen to ride it on a Bergamont E-Horizon FS Elite e-bike. Pedalling for around 8 hours a day to hit the 72 mile average daily distance required to complete the adventure.
Although the e-bike’s Bosch motor and battery will assist along the way, there’s no doubt that the back-to-back hours of pedalling will prove an unenviable physical challenge….and not to mention the chafing! The trip is both a personal challenge for Ray but will also raise money for a very worthwhile charity: Maggie’s.
Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends, following the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks.
Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need. The centres are places to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support; places to meet other people; places where you can simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.
“If you feel that you wish to contribute, many thanks. Your generosity will go a long way to help a really good cause.” If you'd like to sponsor Ray, you can do this on his Just Giving page. None of the funds raised will be used to cover the costs of participation in the event and ride. These will be covered by Ray, Energise E-bikes and some generous industry support. We're proud to be supporting Ray on his latest challenge and we know that every penny raised will be going to an incredible charity.
About the Trip
The planning and logistics are significant and back up will be provided by Peak Tours, an experienced company who have organised many similar events. If you're interested in taking on your own e-bike challenge they've got plenty of tours to choose from all over Europe. Ray will be documenting the trip so keep an eye on the Energise E-bikes blog for the latest photos and ride write ups.
